Biography

Nicole C. Barilla advises and defends businesses and professionals, including commercial companies and insurers, in high-exposure civil litigation throughout California. She works with carriers, clients, and experts developing detailed litigation strategies from initial retention through arbitration or trial and focuses on delivering cost-effective services by providing thorough initial investigations and straightforward legal analysis to determine whether claims should be disposed of early or prepared for trial. She has successfully defended hundreds of clients in the auto insurance, ride-share, and commercial real estate industries for civil matters, including pre-litigation claims, UM/UIM defense, and all manner of litigated cases.

Recently, Nicole second-chaired the defense of a two-week jury trial involving a plaintiff who underwent a lumbar fusion surgery and had an additional recommendation for shoulder surgery following a motor vehicle accident.  The Plaintiff sought $2.3 million in damages and the jury returned a verdict of $32,200.  The defense beat a pre-trial Statutory 998 Offer, resulting in post-verdict settlement costs recoverable by the insurance carrier.

In addition, Nicole's past experience includes the preparation of commercial real estate leases, purchase and sale agreements, vendor contracts, license agreements, and other miscellaneous corporate documents. She acted as the lead of an $8.5 million acquisition of three franchise restaurants and also managed all corporate governance matters for a nationally recognized commercial restaurant company, including the issuance of stock.
