Todd Haas Coaches High School Team for San Diego County Mock Trial Competition
February 8, 2023 (San Diego, CA) – Todd Haas, a senior partner in Hawkins Parnell's San Diego office, is coaching the Coronado High School Mock Trial Team in the annual San Diego Mock Trial Competition this month. It is his 14th year coaching in the competition, and his 10th year coaching the Coronado High School team.
"I believe it is our responsibility as legal professionals to give back to our community and help the next generation learn about the legal system, develop important life skills, and gain a deeper understanding of their role in society," said Haas. "These students are bright, ambitious, and eager to learn, and I am confident they will do great in the competition and achieve great things in life by using the skills they have learned."
This year’s competition focuses on an alleged robbery and battery accusation on a luxury cruise ship involving actors in the ship’s production of Macbeth at Sea. The competition also includes a pre-trial motion to suppress evidence based on the Fourth Amendment.
The San Diego High School Mock Trial Competition provides students with the chance to enhance their advocacy skills by acting as attorneys, witnesses, bailiffs, and clerks in a simulated trial. Through the preparation and participation in a mock trial, students gain valuable insights and develop a deeper appreciation for the American legal system. The competition, administered by the San Diego County High School Mock Trial Committee, represents local law agencies, organizations, and courts and provides students with the opportunity to develop critical thinking, effective communication, and teamwork skills.
