Kimberly D. Stevens is speaking at the National Bar Association’s 2016 Gateway to Success III Conference during the annual Mid-year Conference & Gertrude E. Rush Awards. Kimberly is moderating the panel session titled, “Using your Legal Skills to Move to the Business Side of your Corporation or Move from Outside Counsel to In-house Counsel.” This panel, which is comprised of senior level corporate executives, will discuss key considerations in using your law degree for a career on the business side of a corporation. The panel will engage in a dynamic discussion about the necessary and unique skill set required for a transition to the business side of a corporation. While working on the business side of the corporation can be exciting and rewarding as a leader and strategist, lawyers must know the pitfalls and boundaries. The panel will discuss the distinction that must be made between serving in a role as business leader versus legal counsel when making decisions and giving advice. Additionally, the panel will discuss the ethical duties and obligations as an officer of the court while serving as a business leader for a corporation when managing records, information, and resources.

Before joining Hawkins Parnell & Young, Kimberly served as in-house counsel for an energy company representing the parent company, its subsidiaries, employees and officers in civil litigation and providing counsel to the business units. Prior to working as counsel for the energy company, Kimberly worked for one of the “Big Three” American automobile companies as a member of management teams in operations, human resources, and labor negotiations.
