HPY Wins Summary Judgment in Los Angeles Take-Home Exposure Case
September 13, 2012 (Los Angeles, CA) – Macy Chan won summary judgment on behalf of a product manufacturer client in Los Angeles County Superior Court. In this bystander, take-home exposure case, Plaintiff claimed that he encountered asbestos fibers released from Hawkins Parnell & Young’s client’s products as a bystander and that these asbestos fibers were then carried home on his clothes and body and exposed Decedent. HPY conducted extensive discovery and investigation which ultimately revealed that HPY's client's products were of the type that did not contain asbestos - thereby negating all of Plaintiffs’ claims. The Honorable Emilie Elias, judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, granted HPY’s summary judgment motion in its entirety.
Following the summary judgment win, HPY negotiated reimbursement of $13,000 in costs recoverable under California law.
