HPY Secures Summary Judgment in Los Angeles Wrongful Death Case

January 28, 2019 – Press Release

January 28, 2019 (Los Angeles, CA) – Hawkins Parnell & Young's Los Angeles team won a complete summary judgment for an industrial pump manufacturer in a wrongful death claim based on exposure to asbestos fibers. Los Angeles County Superior Court judge Rupert Byrdsong granted the contested motion after oral argument, finding that the plaintiff’s failed to produce any evidence that the decedent was exposed to any asbestos related to HPY’s client’s pumps.

HPY’s team, led by Ed Ulloa, who argued the motion, associate Michael Giaquinto was successful in his presentation of the lack of evidence against HPY’s client. The plaintiffs produced testimony from four of the decedent’s co-workers, which was effectively negated by HPY’s team on cross-examination.

The plaintiffs were represented by Weitz & Luxenberg, LLP.
