Dawn Anderson Becomes Certified in Mental Health First Aid

August 1, 2022 – Press Release

August 1, 2022 (Atlanta, GA) – Hawkins Parnell & Young chief operations officer Dawn Anderson became certified in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. MHFA prepares participants to engage and support a person experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis through a five-step action plan.

"The wellness and resilience of our attorneys and professionals are paramount," said Anderson. "It is common knowledge that high-stakes litigation can be very demanding. This certification is part of Hawkins Parnell's strategic commitment and investment of resources in the wellbeing of our team members."

One in five Americans has a mental illness but are reluctant to seek help or might not know where to turn for care. Studies show that the legal profession is especially vulnerable to depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide.

Over two million people have become certified in MHFA since its launch in 2008, including university professors and staff; doctors, nurses, hospital employees; employers; business leaders; faith communities; and law enforcement. Peer-reviewed studies across the globe show that the MHFA program saves lives, enhances mental health, expands knowledge of mental illnesses, increases treatments, and reduces the overall stigma by improving mental health literacy.
