Brian J. Schneider

Biography

Brian is a go-to litigator for defendants confronting complex toxic tort and product liability claims that sound in admiralty. Few other lawyers in the United States have his combination of experience trying product liability cases under maritime law. Because of his unique skill set, Brian has litigated maritime claims across the country on behalf of manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, vessel interests, and commercial shipyards at both the state and federal levels. Brian is a frequent speaker and writer on the intersection of maritime law and product liability claims, whose publications are cited regularly by commentators, advocates, and courts alike.

As former chair of the Appellate Advocacy section of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, Brian has handled many significant appeals touching upon a plethora of state, federal, and constitutional issues. For his efforts in these areas, he has been named several times as a “Virginia Super Lawyer” for his civil defense work, as well as among Virginia’s “Legal Elite” by Virginia Business for his appellate advocacy on behalf of his clients. Upon invitation in 2019, Brian became a member of the Virginia State Bar Litigation Section Board of Governors. He is also a former president of the Henrico County Bar Association.

Before entering private practice, Brian clerked for the Honorable James P. Jones in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.
